Today has been a cloud-covered gloomy day in Western Washington, even in Sequim. We have not had any rain in Sequim, but it has been darkly overcast all day long.

Having only come to my house in Sequim on weekends for more than a year, while finishing up my working life, my dog Candi-Louise is understandably confused over the fact that we are still here. She keeps watching for the activities, such as washing the dishes, that I used to do on Sunday morning prior to heading back to the city. When she sees these activities occurring, she gets excited and starts following me around. Eventually, she gives up and goes back to sleep on the couch.
This brings to mind the subject of change, and especially radical changes in our lives like retiring. Change can be good, and certainly something like retirement can be some of the best change. Yet, all change can be stressful and difficult to adjust to. As I have noted in my online signature for many years, all things change, and that fact is the only constant in the universe. So, how can human beings be naturally upset by change and yet be the most evolutionarily successful species in the entire history of the planet? If you exist for longer than a nanosecond, then you will experience change. So why should change be a difficult thing?
Just a thought...
