Why you were supposed to say that? Hehe! I think dentists really concerned about you.

In response to: That Computer Between My Ears

I believe the first official baby boomer year of birth is 1946. So perhaps you are a pre-boomer? LOL!

Yes, information overload can be a problem. Thank goodness for the reticular activating system, which helps us concentrate on what we think is most important. My over-active mind has been more of a blessing for me than a curse. It allows me to problem-solve effectively and fits well with my analytical, detail-oriented, logical nature.

Lack of self-awareness being a blessing is an interesting thought. For the self-aware, considering a lack of self-awareness probably results in negativity, while the non-self-aware are unable to consider the subject and thus do not know what they are missing.
If 1947 qualifies as leading-edge boomer, I guess 1945 would make me cutting-edge. Not sure this is a distinction I am happy with.
The drawback of a mind constantly awash with too many information streams is that truly important stuff can get drowned out by background noise.
Perhaps the "lower" animals lack of self-awareness can be a blessing.

In response to: The Sentient Belly

6'3" huh. On a pounds per inch basis, 200 would put you into my range.

My theory has always been that our metabolism slows down as we grow old, but appetite lags behind by about a year. Thus, we are always eating at the previous year's metabolism!!

My late wife was told by a doctor that, as long as she was taking anti-depressants, she would NOT be able to lose any weight.
Yeah, I was a stringbean in high school too, except every decade I added 10 pounds or more. I'm tracking my progress in the sidebar on my blog.
I've lost a bunch but still have moobs and belly and love handles.
Tough to get those to go away. I'm focusing on them with weight training. I sure hope I can get rid of them.
My goal is to get to 200... and I"m 62 and 6'3"

So you're the culprit! I wondered where my weather had gone.

I'm in Florida and am experiencing unrelenting COLD an rainy weather. Usually we have perhaps ten days when we need the heater and sweaters. This year we've used the heater, sweaters and long johns almost daily!
